An armed and masked man held up the conductor of a West Duluth street car and made his escape after firing several shots. One of the bullets entered a home at 5720 Tacony St.

A thief broke into the Dugout Bar, 318 W. First St., smashed open two cash registers and made off with $1,145. Detectives theorized the thief was probably someone who had been drinking at the bar before it closed.

Esko school officials are coping with local residents who fear there is a link between three recent cancer cases among school employees and asbestos in the building. Officials say there is no reason to suspect a link and that Esko's asbestos situation is similar to other schools and is within guidelines.
