Just a week before Inauguration Day, J.D. Vance, then the vice-president-elect, stated that “obviously” those who actually committed violence during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol would not be pardoned or their sentences commuted.
Well, the rule of law is apparently not obvious to President Donald Trump, who freed them all . While essentially spitting in the face of the 140 law enforcement officers who were injured that day — and the five who died in the wake of the Trump-inspired riot — the president affirmed that political violence is now OK.

Trump, a convicted felon (34 counts by a jury of his peers), has called Jan. 6, 2021, “a day of love.” Anyone who’s watched even a few minutes of the video recordings of the riot knows it was actually a day of hatred, violence, and shame. The U.S. Justice Department considered it an act of domestic terrorism.
So now, that’s OK, too, apparently. Trump has blood on his hands.
