Prep report: Jack Battaglia powers Cloquet boys past Marshall

In girls hockey action, Proctor/Hermantown routed Superior and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton stunned North Shore.

DULUTH — Cloquet senior Jack Battaglia went for 22 second half points and a game-high 33 in an 85-60 win over Duluth Marshall Monday.

The Hilltoppers were playing without Minnesota Duluth recruit Brooks Johnson due to injury, but tried to keep things competitive. After falling behind by 20 in the first half, Marshall cut the lead to seven before the Lumberjacks extended it back to 13 at halftime.

In the second, Battaglia took over, scoring 20 of the Lumberjacks' first 24 points of the second and pushed the lead back past 20.

Joining Battaglia in double figures for Cloquet (13-3) were Jacob Nelson with 17 points and Noah Hansen with 15.

Ricardo Marcel led the Hilltoppers (6-10) with 19 points and Josh Johnson added 13.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cromwell-Wright 64, Esko 51

Isabella Anderson scored 19 points to lead the Cardinals past Esko.

Clara Swanson also had 19 points for Esko, but they couldn’t quite keep up with Cromwell-Wright, which is now 14-2 on the season. Esko falls to 8-12 overall.

Chisholm 72, Duluth Denfeld 32

Olivia Pascuzzi scored 16 points to lift the Bluestreaks to a 40-point win Monday.

Destiny Schmitz and Paisley Schmitz each scored 10 for Chisholm, now 15-4 on the year.

Laynie Reinertson scored 10 points to lead the Hunters (5-13) and Maurissa Hendricks added nine.

Moose Lake/Willow River 68, North Woods 55

Tyler Orvedahl and Madison Wasche each scored 19 points to lead the Rebels to a 13-point win over North Woods.

Piper Nielsen joined them in double figures with 15 points as MLWR evened its record at 8-8.

Tatum Barto scored a game-high 26 for North Woods (3-13).

Solon Springs 58, South Shore 49

Halle Johnson scored 17 points for the Eagles in a Northern Lights Conference win over South Shore.

Paetyn Simenson had a triple-double for Solon Springs with 10 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Mazzy Johnson joined them in double figures with 13 points.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 1, North Shore 0

Addy Johnson scored 3 minutes, 57 seconds into the second period and the lead held up for the Lumberjacks at Sonju Arena in Two Harbors.

Izabella Strang stopped all 29 shots she faced to get the shutout for CEC (6-16-1).

Alexa Harrison stopped 12 of 13 shots for the Storm (19-3-1).

Proctor/Hermantown 7, Superior 0

Ella Rothe scored twice in the first period and Ella Kaups scored twice in the second period in the romp for the Mirage.

Mya Gunderson scored in the second period for Proctor/Hermantown (18-6), while Avery Millbridge and Grace Nichols each scored in the third.

Neelah McLeod had nine saves for the Mirage and Kaylie Nault made 37 for the Spartans (15-3).
