CLOQUET — Cloquet-Esko-Carlton senior Bobby Thornton scored in each period of the Lumberjacks' 6-3 win over Duluth Denfeld Tuesday at Northwoods Federal Credit Union Arena.
Thornton got the scoring going about halfway through the first period and added another late in the second. He capped off the hat trick with an unassisted, shorthanded goal at the 8:22 mark of the third period.

Hudson Snesrud and Jordan Sewell each scored in the first period for the Lumberjacks and Grady Knutson scored in the third. Senior defenseman Karson Young recorded three assists for CEC.
Tristin Nephew scored for Denfeld in the second period, while John Scott and Nolan Harju both scored in the third.
CEC’s Jacob Iallanardo recorded 17 saves, while Liam Fish had 27 for Denfeld.
Rock Ridge 3, Hibbing/Chisholm 1
Levi Flatley scored at the 8:35 mark of the third period to put the Wolverines in front and Zac Norberg added a late goal in the win over Hibbing/Chisholm at Iron Trail Motors Arena in Virginia.
Rock Ridge’s Caz Carlson put his team in front early in the second period, but Bluejackets’ freshman Cole Swanson tied it early in the third.
The Wolverines' Wyatt Jonassen made 26 saves and Hibbing/Chisholm’s Rex Walli made 11 saves.
Before the game, the Wolverines honored Willard Ikola, the legendary Edina coach that grew up in Eveleth, and Mike Sertich, the former Minnesota Duluth coach that was born in Virginia.

Grand Rapids 5, Duluth Marshall 1
The Thunderhawks’ Jameson Duell had a three-point night to help lift his team to the win at Yanmar Arena.
Grand Rapids scored three times in the first 5 minutes, 5 seconds of play to put the Hilltoppers in a hole early. Luka Rohloffs scored 49 seconds into the game, followed by Ryan Bymark and Duell.
Luke Palecek scored in the second and Caleb Gunderson added another in the third.
The Hilltoppers’ Bennett Scissons broke up the shut out with a goal at the 11:30 mark of the third period.
Ryder Miskovich stopped 21 shots for the Thunderhawks, while Landon Wheeler made 16 saves for Marshall.
Proctor 4, Pine City 1
A three-goal surge in the third period lifted the Rails to a win on Tuesday at Aspirus St. Luke’s Sports and Event Center.
Austin Bryant scored 4:59 into the third period to break a 1-1 tie that had existed since the early going and was followed by goals from Tanner Ross and Blaine Boysen. Ross and Dylan Denzler finished with a goal and assist.

Goaltender Brayden McLean made 28 saves for the Rails (9-9-1).
Totino-Grace 6, Duluth East 4
The Greyhounds gave up three goals over 80 seconds late in the third period to allow Totino-Grace to rally from a 4-2 deficit after the second period at Brooklyn Park Community Center.
Caden Cole had a goal and two assists for the Greyhounds, while Timothy Balthazor, Zach Vallie and Christian Cochran all recorded goals.
Tre Peck tied the game for the Eagles at the 14:29 mark of the third period and Noah Osland scored twice over the next 80 seconds to secure the win.
Nolan Nygaard made 38 saves for the Greyhounds and Gavin Covrig had 31 for the Eagles.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Grand Rapids/Greenway 3, Duluth 2
Grand Rapids/Greenway senior Mercury Bischoff scored shorthanded early in the third period and Abby Skelly scored 36 seconds into overtime to secure the win.
After the Lightning’s Hailey Kilduff scored 2:35 into the game, Gracyn Schipper and Mae McCall put the Northern Stars up 2-1. The score remained that way until Bischoff’s score early in the third.

Grand Rapids/Greenway goalie Clair Tobeck made 15 saves, while Aaili Anttila had 35 for the Northern Stars.
Rock Ridge 3, Hibbing/Chisholm 2
The Wolverines’ Mayme Scott scored twice to rally Rock Ridge from a two-goal deficit Tuesday in Virginia.
Kendal Gustavsson and Brielle Oberstar scored twice in 49 seconds in the second period to put the Bluejackets up, but Mayme Scott scored later in the period and the overtime game-winner.
Natalie Bergman tied the game at the 9:22 mark of the third period for Rock Ridge.
Nola Kwiatkowski stopped 38 shots for the Wolverines and Bryjah Schnipkoweit made 39 saves for Hibbing/Chisholm.
BOYS SWIMMING
Duluth 95, Hibbing 65
The visitors from Duluth came out on top of the team standings in this dual meet in Hibbing Tuesday.
Duluth senior Landon West sprinted to victory in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.32 seconds and aided two winning relays, while Elliot Yung took the 200 free in 1:51:33 and joined West on the 200 free relay. Seiji Sudoh outtouched Hibbing’s Wylie Stenson by a tenth of a second to win the 100 free in 51.84 and joined West on the winning 200 medley relay. Sudoh also had the fastest time, a 1:03.26, in the 100 breaststroke.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Bemidji 94, Hermantown 57
The Lumberjacks got hot offensively right away, scoring 58 points in the first half to put Hermantown in a deep hole on Tuesday in Bemidji.
Jaxon Boschee scored 16 of his game-high 28 for Bemidji in the first half.
Ben Sundland scored 14 to lead Hermantown (3-12).

Moose Lake/Willow River 83, Rush City 43
The Rebels put 51 points on the board in the first half to cruise to a home win on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Eli Youngs led four Rebels (9-6) scoring in double figures with 19 points, while Chase Clausen added 17 and both Layne Radzak and Jackson Walker posted 10.

Ely 62, Greenway 46
A 30-point night from Jack Davies for host Ely was too much for the Raiders to handle on Tuesday night.
Ely, which expanded a 28-24 halftime lead into double digits after the break, got 10 3-pointers, five from Davies.
Greenway (9-8) got a team-best 18 points from Stephen McGee.
Bayfield 81, Solon Springs 61
The Trollers scored 47 of the game’s final 61 points to take a Northern Lights Conference win out of Solon Springs on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Quintin Bresette dropped 31 for Bayfield, while Solon (8-6, 7-4 NLC) got 20 from Isaac Dickenson and 14 from Cade Lisson.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Superior 63, Hermantown 60
A 22-point night from Annabel Manion helped the Spartans to one of their best victories of the season and a three-game win streak on Tuesday, Jan. 28 in Superior.
Tara Stratton contributed 16 and Ava Meierotto 11 for the Spartans (7-10).
Proctor 65, Cloquet 39
The Rails turned up the defensive intensity in the second half, allowing just 16 points after the break to finish off Cloquet on Tuesday in Proctor.
Cloquet’s top scorers were Lauren Hughes and Nattie Butler, who had 10 points apiece. The Lumberjacks fell to 6-11 overall.
Proctor, now 17-2, got 15 points apiece from Lily Smith and Paige Evans. Chloe Carlson kicked in 12.
