Brielle Bredsten is an award-winning professional writer, photographer and editor based in rural Minnesota. Over the past decade, Brielle Bredsten has contributed more than 1,000 articles, feature stories, non-profit press-releases, photographs and columns. During Bredsten’s tenure as editor at the Aitkin Independent Age, the newspaper as a whole was awarded in the 2019 Minnesota Newspaper Association “Better Newspaper Contest” for Special Section (1st place) and General Excellence (2nd place) among weekly circulations of 2,501-5,000. Additionally, Bredsten was individually awarded between 2019 and 2020 with 1st place for Feature Photo, and Portrait & Personality; 2nd place for Photo Story and Columnist; and 3rd place for Lynn Smith Community Leadership Award and Investigative Reporting.
Bredsten went on to serve as executive director of the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber of Commerce from 2019-2021. Her skills were applied toward grant writing, raising $50,000+ in grant funding for the 501(c)6 non-profit organization’s events, marketing and community projects. Bredsten was also responsible for producing the 2020 and 2021 Cuyuna Lakes Visitor Guides. She provided copy, photographs and design input for the publications with 10,000 print editions distributed at tourism centers throughout Minnesota, in addition to the digital versions.
Her experience also includes producing the Aitkin Community Education Accent magazine, which were distributed to 4,500 ISD 1 residents.
Aside from writing professionally, Bredsten enjoys creative writing as a hobby. In 2017, she won 2nd place in the Brainerd Writer’s Alliance Fall Festival for her creative non-fiction short story, “Butterflies.”
Her other community involvement and leadership training includes: Blandin Foundation’s Editors & Publishers Community Leadership Program, Blandin Foundation’s Aitkin Area Community Leadership Program, Minnesota Chamber of Commerce Executive Leadership Program, Activities Committee of Cuyuna Regional Medical Center, Rotarian of Aitkin Lakes Rotary Club, Economic Development and Water Trails Committees – Aitkin Area Chamber of Commerce, Family Support Committee – Backing the Blue Line Police Wives of Minnesota.
She earned a bachelor's degree in Professional Writing & Technical Communication, with minors in Advertising and Creative Writing from Metropolitan State University, in addition to a two-year professional paid internship as reporter/editor of the student newspaper.
A wife and mother of two young daughters and a son, Bredsten occasionally works from home as a professional writer, editor and photographer on a freelance basis to produce print and digital content for clients. She is also the business reporter for the Duluth News Tribune.
When she’s not behind her writing desk, she can be found painting, doing Yoga, reading, hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking, fishing, hunting, or spending quality time with loved ones.
