UMD goalie recruit makes midterm NHL draft rankings
Future Minnesota Duluth goaltender Carl Axelsson of Sweden made NHL Central Scouting’s midterm rankings for the 2025 NHL Draft.
Playing junior hockey in the United States this year after coming over from Sweden, the 6-foot-3 Axelsson is ranked 13th among North American goaltenders.
Axelsson, 18, began 2024-25 playing in South Dakota for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL, but only got in to four games in September, October and November. He left the USHL for the NAHL to play in Minnesota for the Austin Bruins.
After posting a .837 save percentage and 4.95 goals against average in four starts with Sioux Falls, Axelsson has a .924 save percentage and 1.98 GAA in Austin in four games in December and January, going 3-1 as the starter.
