COOK — A school bus crash sent two students to the hospital for treatment of "non-life-threatening" injuries.

The bus slid off the road, striking two trees before it came to rest against a light pole at 8:12 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.

Thirty-one students and a driver were aboard the bus at the time of the collision on Olsen Road East, near North Woods School in Cook.

Icy conditions likely played a role in the crash, according to an initial report. School officials are reaching out to the parents of all students involved.

The sheriff's office and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating the crash.

Also assisting at the scene were the Cook Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, Orr EMS, Virginia Fire/EMS and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
