Max Plante added to U.S. preliminary roster for World Juniors
Freshman defenseman Adam Kleber is no longer the lone Bulldog on the preliminary roster for the 2025 U.S. National Junior Team. UMD teammate Max Plante, a freshman wing from Hermantown, is also now in the running to play for Team USA at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship that will be held Dec. 26, 2024 through Jan. 5, 2025 in Ottawa.
Plante was added to the preliminary roster on Tuesday. The 2024 second-round NHL draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings was left off the original roster after missing 10 of UMD’s first 11 games due to an arm injury. He has two goals and two assists since returning for the final four UMD games before the holiday break.
Plante scored his first two goals as a Bulldog last weekend at Arizona State. A product of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, he has two goals and four assists in five games this season.
The preliminary roster for Team USA now includes 29 players and will need to be cut down to 25 for the World Juniors. Kleber is one of 10 defensemen on the preliminary roster and Plante is one of 16 forwards.
Training camp gets underway next week on Dec. 16-17 in Plymouth, Michigan.
