Reader's View: DFL cares little about northern Minnesota

Considering House DFL no-show plans, I’m just calling a spade a spade.

Notwithstanding Duluth’s dependency on free-trade agreements that devastated middle-class America the past half century, it seems northern Minnesota hasn’t only faced macro-economic aberrations but also DFL policies tending to crimp industrial opportunity and stunt population growth. Could that explain Duluth’s population woes? And wouldn’t the local population be most relevant to a region’s economic future?

Watching various lamentations about Democratic policies enabling the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, one could hardly avoid reflecting closer to home about the human displacement manifested up north, albeit over 60 years by DFL policies, irrespective of how disparate the time horizons.

A September 2018 Minnesota House report, “ Regional Trends in the Domestic Migration of Minnesota’s Young People ,” stated, “Migration to and from Minnesota — in particular the migration of young people — will impact the future of Minnesota’s economy and governance.” Paraphrasing, Minnesota’s huge education budget hardly reaps much benefit if Minnesota’s youth leave the state for college and don’t come back. Citing projections, the state’s death rate will exceed births during the early 2040s. Yet the report abhorrently framed population growth as depending on “the state’s ability to attract new residents through migration.” Yet, despite how quickly negative migration can spiral out of control and the importance of Minnesota’s youth, is it any wonder the report created by the same DFL bastions that cared so little about northern Minnesota’s economy would be so cavalier about Minnesota’s future generations? What about saving children from Minnesota’s new abortion laws that rival communist countries?

As Newsmax columnist and psychotherapist Michael J. Hurd wrote, “ It Was Never Liberalism, its Totalitarianism ,” making it difficult to differentiate today’s DFL from communist revolutionaries at war with America. Considering House DFL no-show plans, I’m just calling a spade a spade.
