Quebec pipeline continues for UMD women
The Bulldogs are bringing in another goaltender from the province of Quebec.
UMD received a verbal commitment this week from Marilou Grenier, a 17-year-old goaltender from Quebec who would turns 18 in January. She would be eligible to play for UMD in 2025-26 and backup fellow Quebec native Eve Gascon.
Or she could do like Gascon and defer her enrollment. Gascon didn’t come to UMD until she was 20 in 2023-24 after going through post-secondary education in Quebec. Gascon is now a sophomore.
Playing for Quebec, Grenier was named the top goaltender at Canada’s Under-18 national championships this fall. Quebec lost the gold medal game to Ontario Red 1-0 with Grenier making 22 saves. She finished the tournament with a .964 save percentage and 0.98 goals against average with one shutout in five games.
Grenier also suited up for the Canadian women’s U18 team this summer in the U18 series against the United States, backstopping Canada to a win in the opener with 36 saves on 38 shots.
