DULUTH — There was no getting past Neelah McLeod on Monday evening.

The senior goalie turned away all 15 shots she faced in Proctor/Hermantown’s 1-0 win at Mound Westonka/Southwest Christian. McLeod’s excellence between the pipes helped secure her seventh shutout of the year and the Mirage’s fourth win in the last five games.

McLeod rejected a couple of Mound Westonka/Southwest Christian high-quality scoring chances while also successfully killing four minutes of penalties on the road. Because of McLeod’s dominant effort, the Mirage needed just one elite scoring opportunity.

That chance came in the second period when senior forward Jane Eckstrom fired a shot past Savannah Blohowiak. Although there was a period-plus remaining in regulation, Eckstrom’s unassisted goal proved to be the game-winner for the Mirage.

Including McLeod’s shutout on Monday, Proctor/Hermantown has nine this season. Brilliance between the pipes — led by McLeod’s .925 save percentage with more than 500 shots faced — has been a driving factor in the Mirage’s 16-6 overall record.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
