DULUTH — As the shipping season nears its end, the John J. Boland made a quick visit to Duluth-Superior on Thursday.

The laker arrived around 1 p.m. and departed around 3 p.m., with Tug Missouri assisting.

Built in 1973, the John J. Boland has a length of almost 680 feet and a width of nearly 78 feet. The ship is headed to the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, according to the website vesselfinder.com, with an estimated arrival for early Saturday morning.
