Minnesota United and Hassani Dotson have not been able to agree to a contract extension over the last few months and Dotson’s representation has requested a trade away from the Loons, sources confirmed to the Pioneer Press on Friday.
GiveMeSport, which broke the news, shared a statement issued on Dotson’s behalf: “After over 1 year and 2 months of back and forth with broken promises made by the club on multiple occasions, Hassani Dotson has formally requested to be traded.”

After last season, the Loons picked up Dotson’s club option for the 2025 season and in “good faith” are working on a multi-year deal with Dotson.
A different source pushed back on that characterization and said the club has “stalled” for more than a year and have not been honest in its process.
Dotson received $557,500 in guaranteed compensation in 2024, according to the MLS Players’ Association.
The club might be open to trading Dotson, but nothing has materialized on that front. Dotson would be coveted as a domestic player believed to be entering his prime.
Dotson, 27, amassed 2,250 minutes over 29 MLS matches last season. He played his best at the end of the season and finished with five goals and two assists. The Federal Way, Wash., native has been a United player since the club drafted him out of Oregon State with the 31st pick in the 2019 draft.
Closer on three additions
The Loons are nearing the finish line on three new players: 24-year-old South Korean midfielder Jeong Ho-yeon, 21-year-old Frenchman midfielder Owen Gene and 21-year-old Argentine center back Nicolas Romero, the Pioneer Press confirmed Friday. Jeong and Romero are closer to completion than Gene, but it appears all have been progressing. Romero and Gene would occupy vacant spots within MLS’ Under-22 Initiative.
“We aren’t going to do five, six or seven players (in the primary transfer window), but figures crossed we do end up with a couple of guys that can come in and really push the guys that we have already,” Ramsay said. “I think we’ve got a good base, but, of course, we are going to need more depth and we need players who are going to threaten, to challenge what was the starting set of players last year.”
