Duluth's Loaves and Fishes community is hosting a gathering at St. Paul's Episcopal Church to acknowledge and celebrate how we are helping to create a more resilient, humane, and equitable world.
From the column: "On MLK Day, followed by Black History Month, I implore you to get involved. Honoring Dr. King’s legacy requires more than just showing up for breakfast or a rally."
From the editorial: "Duluth can give thanks, and we can refocus our energies on the legacy of our nation's greatest-ever civil-rights leader. Just as we do every year."
Inspired by King, we can add our voices by picking up the phone (202-224-3121) and asking our representatives to pass the American Family Act, a renter tax credit, and other equity initiatives.
From the column: "'Bigotry and hatred are not the most urgent problem. The most urgent, the most disgraceful, the most shameful, and the most tragic problem is silence'."
From the editorial: "The speech followed a march from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial, ... a march serenaded with the songs of Joan Baez and Duluth native Bob Dylan."
By calling and writing our members of Congress, we can call for legislation like renewing the Child Tax Credit that lifted millions of children and families out of poverty.
From the column: "While we certainly encourage you to show up to our events for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we implore you to get involved in other ways throughout the year."
From the column: " If you’re shaking your head at the tortoise-like progress of America’s race relations since 1968, you’re not alone. We couldn’t even agree on commemorating King’s birthday."
