Friends of Knutson and law enforcement found Knutson’s vehicle near the Sacred Heart Waterfowl Protection Area, near the intersection of Renville County Road 12 and 810th Avenue. The Renville County Sheriff’s Office said public hunting land in that area totals more than 700 acres.

Several gunshots were heard in the area around 6:25 p.m. The Renville County Sheriff’s Office said those were believed to be Knutson signaling for assistance. Ten minutes later, another gunshot was heard, which helped narrow the search area.

A ground search by foot and ATV began. Emergency personnel converged onto the area and were able to make voice contact with Knutson. He and his dog were located around 6:55 p.m. and found to be in good health.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sacred Heart Fire Department and First Responders, Renville Police, the Minnesota State Patrol and Granite Falls Ambulance.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "West Central Tribune staff report." Often, the "West Central Tribune staff report" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
