John Stout decommits from Bulldogs

Defenseman John Stout of Minnetonka is no longer committed to the UMD men’s hockey program.

The Madison Capitols, where Stout is playing this season in the USHL, no longer lists Minnesota Duluth as Stout’s future destination on its roster, and the Bulldog logo no longer appears next to Stout’s name on the team’s line chart.

A source confirmed Stout’s decommitment on Friday evening, and Stout confirmed to the News Tribune on Saturday morning he had decommitted.

"UMD is a great spot full of even better people," Stout wrote back. "I wish them the best of luck in the future and thank them for the opportunity they gave me."

Stout, 18, verbally committed to UMD in September 2022. He posted six goals and 24 assists in 28 games last season as a senior at Minnetonka High School. He finished the 2023-24 season with Madison in the USHL, registering two goals and an assist in 18 games.

The 6-foot-2, 187-pound defenseman had two goals and three assists through 11 games this season with the Capitols, who are coached by former Wisconsin Badgers Andy Brandt and Tom Gilbert.
