A 75-year-old man burned to death in a two-room shack at 53rd Avenue West near Eighth Street. Witnesses say the man rushed into the shack when it was on fire, and he was found next to some money he was likely trying to save.

Superior State College has established a $500 scholarship in the name of Dennis E. McKenna, late news editor of the Duluth Herald and SSC graduate, according to Dr. Jim Dan Hill, college president. McKenna died last February.

Telly Savalas, his wife, Julie Hovland, and their 6-week-old son, Christian, were in Duluth this week. Savalas had come from President Ronald Reagan's inauguration and was on his way to film a "Kojak" TV movie. Hovland, a Duluth native, was visiting friends and relatives.
